A leading Christian Secondary School is looking for a Facility/Maintenance officer to join their team in Ogun state.
The Facility/Maintenance Officer is responsible for the effective maintenance, continuous improvement, effective performance and safety of all school facilities. Ensures smooth and efficient facilities services to the school whilst maximizing facilities performance and optimizing facilities and maintenance expenses against pre-agreed targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect school facilities for the purpose of ensuring that all facilities are suitable for safe operations, and maintained in an attractive and clean condition. Perform cleaning and special custodial work as required. Plan, schedule, and perform preventative and ongoing maintenance tasks for the purpose of ensuring equipment is in proper working condition.
- Maintain knowledge regarding methods of industrial cleaning, safety practices and procedures and health standards and hazards.
- As appropriate, solicit and analyze proposals from contractors to perform various repairs and special maintenance.
- Determine the type, amount and delivery of maintenance and cleaning materials to support the efficient delivery of assigned duties.
- Coordinate and/or lead staff training to ensure safety and compliance with state/federal regulations. Respond to immediate safety issues to maintain a functioning educational environment.
- Coordinate appropriate facilities set-up and technical equipment for a variety of activities either for the school or for outside use as required.
- Estimate the time and materials costs of proposed maintenance projects for the purpose of informing budgeting, planning and accountability of actual project costs.
- Maintain manual and electronic documents, files and records (inspection records, timesheet, work orders and requisitions, supplies, chemical storage, crisis management data, security controls) for the purpose of documenting activities and ensuring an up-to-date reference.
- Responsible for the line management of all premises and ground maintenance staff, to include participating in their recruitment and selection, identifying their training needs and drawing up their programme of work.
- Responsible for the ordering and checking of invoices, monitoring of budgets and keeping stocks records of all equipment and tools within the sphere of responsibility.
- To manage related aspects of building projects and maintenance work undertaken in the school premises including acting as a point of contact with regard to liaison with building contractors.

- Proven experience as a facility officer or such relevant position.
- Communication and influencing skills, in person and in writing.
- Analytical, problem-solving skills and decision-making.
- The ability to supervise teams and projects.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Good analytical or critical thinking skills.
- Must be well organized, detailed and customer (internal and external) oriented.
Educational and Professional Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Building Technology or Estate Management.
- Membership of relevant professional body will be an advantage but is not a requirement. Example (International Facility Management Association- IFMA or British Institute of Facility Management – BIFM)
